How to plan a website to market your home based business part1 If you plan to start or already have a home based business then a website is something you should give serious thought to.It’s an inexpensive way to market your products and services. If you sell products you can have an online catalogue which you can update, available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. You could set up an e-shop quite easily and accept orders from customers anywhere in the world.Building a website yourself may seem daunting if you have had little experience of the internet and don’t know how to use HTML, but don’t despair!!At one time website building was only for those who where technically minded and had a lot of knowledge about computers, but with some of the easy to use webdesign software available you can do it. For a very easy to use and inexpensive at £15 piece of webdesign software, download webcreator. It’s great for first time webdesigners.http://www.mindscape.co.uk/products/TopProducts.asp?sst=2&cid=2&ssid=41Frontpage is fairly inexpensive and not to difficult to learn how to use. I built my first site using Frontpage.Get a free trial download.http://www.runaware.com/microsoft/frontpage2003/Dreamweaver is more expensive but they do have a 30 day trial download. You get easy to follow tutorials and and extensive manual with it.http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion drc/index.cfm?product=dreamweaverIt may be useful to learn some basic HTML as it will enable you to fine tune pages and add your own coding. For a free online course go to http://www.e-learningcenter.com/free_html_course.htmOver several articles I will try and help you to put together a site that will be profitable and bring in targeted traffic. Before you even begin to design your site you must ask yourself the following questions.1 What is the purpose of your website? Is it to sell products, promote a service, provide information or build a downline.2 Who are your target audience? They may be students, single parents wanting an extra income, or anyone interested in your services or products that you are selling.3 What is your content going to be, and how are you going to present it?Good content is vital. Make each page theme focused and write as if you were talking to a friend. Think what it is that you are trying to achieve and work towards a most wanted response at the end of the page. What do you want your visitor to do? 4 Get yourself a domain name. It looks much more professional to have your own domain name rather than use the free space that comes with your service provider. It doesn’t cost much to buy a domain name and it will give you an enormous advantage. Next you will need to find a web hosting company. I can recommend http://www.internetconnection.net They charge .95 a month (or just under £12 a month) with a 60 day money back guarantee. I use them for several of my websites and always find them to be helpful and quick to respond to any queries I may have. When you have made these important decisions then the next step is to plan the site.Planning your sitePlan your website on paper first. First plan your pages. Start with the index or home page and draw a diagram showing how the pages will link from the index page. Produce a simple flow chart to show how users can navigate through the site.On another piece of paper draw out where you want the page elements to go. This includes the navigation bar, header, logo, main text area, and any other navigation such as a sub menu.Good planning will make it a lot easier when you come to construct the site on the computer.Do some research and take a look at other sites who have a similar theme to yours. Study their design and note if the navigation works well or not. Does it take long to downoad? You can often learn a lot from other webdesigners. When you are happy with your design then it’s time to open up the software you are going to use.In part 2 I will discuss designing the page elements of your website.

Small Business Professional Web Site Design: Concept and the Outline

To have an online identity in the era of internet marketing a website is of utmost importance. It is the online representation of any company with an access to sell company’s name, attract more visitors, generate more business leads, promote more sale of company’s products and services and finally, it helps to reap more return on investment.

The existence of any business is manifest in different ways, and internet medium is the fastest and easiest means whereby a business gets noticed by the public at large. Once any information is put in the web, it becomes global. The intelligent buyers can easily know about any site and, off course, its products and services through that website.

So the popularity as well as the promotion is best done by this flexible medium. A web site gives its target audience a chance to know the site in a best possible way.

Either small or large, a business is prescribed to have an affordable web site design in this highly dominated market where each and every time someone has to fight hard to sell the products and services.

A Professional web design would give leverage to the company: whenever the users would search for the relevant products or services in the search engines, they can have the possibility of seeing the web site of that company.

In this case two things are vital: SEO or the Search Engine Optimization and the Web Usability.

An SEO is a marketing technique to increase the number of visitors in a website by adopting some methodical and intelligent rules; if the SEO is sound enough, the visitors can see your site in the Search Engine Return Page as and when they enter a keyword that is also targeted for your web site. So, the proper keyword targeted is essential, and that is another crucial part of internet marketing. Lots of researches have been there for this.

On the other hand, web usability is nothing but a feasibility by which a user can roam in a site, i.e. user friendliness. It is for sure that once you are able to bring a user to your website your next step would be to hold that user as much time as possible, and that is called site popularity.

At times by an effective SEO tactic you can bring users to your site, but from then on you should think of how long you can keep users in your site. And that part is solely dependent over a successful and professional web site design approach.

The more the site popularity of a web site, the more would be the likelihood of any company to promote itself.

Following are the universal features in a Professional web site design; these aspects are responsible for the higher site popularity of a web site.

• Your web site should be easy to read

• Your web site should be easy to navigate

• Your web site should be easy to find

• Your web page layout and design should be consistent throughout the site

• Your web site should be quick to download

There can be two types of website designs such as: static and dynamic. A static website design is based on HTML codes, whereas a dynamic website design is developed with advanced and sophisticated technologies based on the information provided in the database.

If you want to outshine high on your business, you need to have a website design and development that must be dealt with great care. Numerous companies are there in the market; they can give promising and affordable web site design solution at a cheap rate. At the same time, false promise making dudes are also in abundance.

Before making your web site design you should know about certain things to clarify, and rather ask yourself. In that sense, you must be aware of which are the aspects that need settled before the web design is made.

As such, there must be certain rules before asking for big or small business web design to any web design professional:

1. What is the nature of the business?

2. What is the company name?

3. What is the target audience?

4. What is the logo?

5. Does the company have any tag line?

6. How many pages the company plans to make?

7. What would be the intended navigational structure?

8. Would there be any existing site, which needs to be redesigned or would a completely new site be made?

9. What about the site preference? What are the likeable features in those sites?

10. Would there be any color preference?

11. Would the site be a dynamic or a static one?

How To Boost Your Business With A Well Designed Website: Some Useful Tips!

Article by Rakesh Sharma Jack

Why is website design so critical to a business getting noticed? Primarily, you need to attract visitors so you are able to convert these visitors into customers who pay – so that your business makes money. Secondly, and, to my way of thinking, just as important, the design of your website needs to satisfy the demands of the issues surrounding search engine optimization.

Having learned over the years from my own mistakes, good website design needs to be coupled with optimization at one and the same time if you are to get your business off to a sound start on the internet. This is where the Website Designer comes to the fore over you making use of your own design skills in conjunction with one of the many templates you can get so easily now. I write quite good web pages – in fact, I know enough to know that I don’t know sufficient to replace skills that I consider to be good value in employing an experienced Website Designer.

In fact, I couldn’t afford not to! Appropriate optimization takes more than skill. Of course, you also need to know where to start now you have your well-designed website: how do you boost your business? There are many ways to achieve this, such as the traditional methods of website promotion such as adding your URL to stationery, literature and business cards, brochures and any other advertising literature you should be sending out.

You only need to begin your URL with www. And_your_name.suffix – but you do need to ensure the printer gets it correct. If printed advertising works for you – keep it going: there’s no point in throwing the baby out with the bathwater! Another method is to attract people to your website with the offer of a free service, or a free product.

This method may or may not be cost effective in terms of your time, but it is often very rewarding when it comes to the increased traffic to your site. Few people can resist an offer of something free – and ‘how-to’ information is always a draw. There is still the email marketing methods which is still a valuable source of traffic to your site.

However, make sure you fully understand the ‘CAN Spam’ rules and stay out of trouble: caught spamming can result in your website being removed by your Web host. There is also the signature line that you can add to all your outgoing emails. When you consider the number of emails you may be sending out per month that could be a lot of targeted traffic.

A signature at the bottom of your emails can include the name of your company, your address and phone number, URL and email address and a unique signature line that best describes what your company is offering. Then, of course, there is email newsletters which do demand a bit of time creating them each month.

However, in terms of website promotion, they offer excellent returns. Distribution doesn’t have to cost the earth – use iContact which is an email marketing service with an excellent reputation amongst ISPs. There are innumerable other methods of boosting your business with a well-designed website – far too many to list here. However, those mentioned here will get your business off to a good start, helping to get your business out into cyberspace.

A Business Website? Who Needs That?

A Business Website and A Facebook Places Listing, who needs both?

Sadly, someone once asked me this question just when Places first were catching business owners’ attention, way, way back when. The truth is, we were not prepared to answer that question then, we are now.

Facebook Places Pages.

Our Advanced Local PackageAt over 500 million and growing, there is no doubt that a business can find followers for almost any niche here. Like or make pencils? Facebook has 29 groups dedicated just to the topic “Pencils”! So, yes, a Facebook Places page would do your pencil factory good if you knew how to use it.

You would be leaving quite a bit on the table however, here’s why.

At last count (in 2010), only 49% of all small businesses had a traditional website. We don’t count the “free” websites that we’ve found to be so popular among many small business owners. Or the Myspace Pages some often refer to as their “website”.

We mean a professionally designed web property, hosted at a web host of your choice and with a domain name dedicated to your business and only your business.

When a person searches for a business or a product in Google, they will be presented with the LOCAL businesses first. Local to their Geo position, either courtesy of GPS or their ISP. Now, if you don’t have a site optimized for those keywords being  searched, they can’t present your business, can they?

Sure the search results pages show places pages, but on closer examination, most of those presented DO have a website. A website is considered as a whopping 10% of the ranking factors. The only times these Places Pages (without attached websites) show up, is usually when the niche is so tiny and without competition that Google has no choice but to show the Places in their results.

Websites For Physical Goods Versus Services

A friend of ours owns a transmission replacement business. After putting up a website for him he came to us one day and asked us how come he was receiving calls from all over the country? We told him we could make them stop but he said no, he just wanted more local calls, we referred him to our Advanced Local Package and today, we are like heroes to him.

Did it matter that he wasn’t selling physical goods? No. Did his customer base grow? Yes. Can this be done for a local florist or a plumber? You’d better believe it.

With the advent of mobile websites, this is quickly becoming a huge plus for small businesses. A website can establish them as a professional entity in the eyes of their customers or potential clients. A mobile site allows them to reach those clients on the go, looking for answers to their questions now. These searchers usually have “Purchase Intent”.

The two sites together levels the playing field that’s called their market niche. Google has been very good in their support for small business over the last two years, as they should be. Think about it. Small businesses make up the majority of businesses in the world, don’t they? How can they ignore this fact and expect to remain profitable? Especially if their competition doesn’t?

The Basic Mobile Package

Basic Mobile PackageBusinessbymouse.com came up with The Basic Mobile Package just so that small businesses could overcome this hurdle and quickly establish their web presence.

The package includes BOTH a traditional and a mobile website, and can be made ready to rock and roll within a week! The best part is, we made the investment a super reasonable one, in that way, many more businesses can partake of this  and truly realize the profit potential the Internet and the Mobile Web can bestow upon them.

No, you don’t need to learn how to code websites. You don’t need to optimize graphics, or do any keyword research. We do it as part of the package. Worried about not being able to have access to the sites when you need to? Do not. They are turned over to you completely, or if you prefer, we can manage them for you on a maintenance fee basis.

A mobile site is perfect for generating local leads. Ask out transmission replacement client. He’s not on Facebook or even likes reading his email, and yet, he has a mobile site! Read the details at the link below.

$50,000/yr to Update Facebook Profiles?

Social Media Manager – The Business World’s Newest Profession

Better believe it! If you are one of those Facebook fans who spend more time updating your profile than you do sleeping, then this job is for you. You have the skills (and interest 🙂 ) needed.

Are you an official member of the “Tweeple Nation?” You’re hired! Consider the positions mentioned in the video, Social Media Assistant and Social Media Manager then start sending those resumes out.

Here’s The Guest Article From: Kate Buck

I still get funny looks when I tell people that I get paid to send Tweets and Facebook updates… While there is obviously more to being a social media manager than just playing on Facebook, the truth is, my job is way more fun and wayyy more lucrative than the jobs the people giving me those funny looks have. :)

NOW being a social media manager is more official than ever and is seen as a viable and high paying business PROFESSION. Check out this video and you’ll see for yourself!

In case you missed any of those juicy statistics…

On average, social media managers make $50,000/yr. starting out.  Pretty fair compensation for managing social media accounts right? I bet I won’t be getting as many of those funny looks anymore ;)

If you fit the job description of:  ”Someone who understands Facebook and Twitter and would enjoy tweeting, posting and engaging customers through social media”  Then there is a big opportunity out there for you.

-Kate Buck

Don’t sleep on this. Social Media was huge last year, but considering the fact that both Google and Facebook are contemplating a takeover of Twitter right now, Feb 2011, the implications for its growth this year are simply astounding!

2011 is already shaping up to be the year of Local Marketing and SMS Marketing. It’s just a natural extension to add Social Media Management to the mix.

List Your Home Business Address at Your Own Risk

We’ve said it before and this article will confirm it, “Post something on the internet and it will be archived FOREVER, whether you like it or not!

Here’s a case in point. Google Places has a provision where a home-based small business can still put up a Places page just as a bricks and mortar business would, with the “option” to have their actual address shielded.

Going on the premise stated in the first sentence, we’ve always advised friends, family and clients NOT to put anything on the Internet that they may regret in the future. That goes for videos, pictures and other graphics and of course personal information like addresses, telephone numbers etc.

Is there a basis for this? Read the article and don’t be shocked.

Where Is A Business Address That is Hidden Not Really Hidden? Google Places

Category: Google Places (Maps & Local) – Mike – 9:00 am

Last March, Google introduced the ability to hide the address for at home and service businesses that do not want clients driving to their locations. At the time, the feature, while useful, also managed to hide your business listing deep in the index. With the rollout of Places Search in October, the feature became more useful as your listing would now show on the new local organic blended results (although still not in the traditional 7-Pack).

One of the reasons that some SMB’s choose to hide their address is that they don’t want the security risk of exposing their home address. Be warned however, that there is “leakage” in the data and it is still possible to…
